UPDATE: Second person succumbs to injuries in Allen Street head-on crash
Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the injured passenger, but were unsuccessful
Earlier this afternoon, a bakkie and a light motor vehicle were involved in a head-on collision on Allen Street.
The driver of the bakkie was declared dead at the scene and the passenger was said to be in a critical condition.

Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the injured passenger, but were unsuccessful. The passenger has since passed away.
The driver of the second vehicle is also in a critical condition after been rushed to hospital.
The Newcastle Advertiser extends its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.
The exact cause of the incident remains subject to police investigation.
