Caring resident ‘rescues’ starving, chained up dog and assists owner

'Sometimes it is better to teach than to punish'

Naresh Gopie described Sunday as the ‘saddest day of my life” when came across a starving, chained up dog in Craigside village.

His immediate reaction was to take action against the owner. “However, upon speaking to the dog’s owner I learned that this man had recently lost his job at a dairy and he really loves his dogs. It is just that he was in the dark as how to look after them properly. He also did not have enough money for his family or his pets.”

Naresh, who is also chairman of Tourism Dundee,  said he took time out to explain to the man that chaining up a dog was defeating the purpose of having pet. He also took dog food back to the home and made the dogs had clean water and asked the owner to untie the dogs.

“The situation is under control and I will go back on Monday to check. It would be wonderful if a bag of dog food could be donated once a month. Sometimes people just need some information and be given knowledge without punishing them further.”

Anyone wanting to assist could call Naresh at 0 71 682 4584
