Few incidents on voter-registration weekend in Estcourt

"If you did not make it during the weekend, visit our offices next to the municipal building in Victoria Street, before the election date is proclaimed by the President"

The 120 voting stations within the Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality were opened over the weekend as the final voter registration got underway.

Locals used the opportunity on Saturday and Sunday to register to vote or check if they have been registered as the final voter registration wrapped up. Voting stations were operational from 8am until 5pm on both days. At some stations, the turnout was very poor while others had queues that were snaking out of the door.

“Everything went perfectly. We did, however, experience minor incidents but managed to sort them out and proceed,” explained Municipal Electoral Officer (MEO) Vusumuzi Magubane.

He added that the voters roll is still being consolidated and he did not have any statistics as yet. Mr Magubane would like to urge all those who were unable to register or check their information on the voters roll to come and do so.

Party agents observe proceedings.

“If you did not make it during the weekend, visit our offices next to the municipal building in Victoria Street, before the election date is proclaimed by the President. Visit us anytime during office hours,” he said.
