Storm brings some relief but damage too

Corrugated roof sheeting was ripped off and twisted like rolls of paper

Wednesday evening’s rain and wind storm brought with it some relief from the drought conditions but not without cost. A section  of the roofing of the Umzinyathi District Health Offices on Willson Street was ripped.

Twisted sheets of corrugated iron were left lying on the road, partially blocking the adjacent Home Affairs offices where customers, seemingly oblivious to the destruction, were waiting for the offices to open before 7am this morning.

Drought puts further pressure on water resources

It is not clear yet if there was any damage to the interior of the buildings.

Falls of up to 35mm were measured in central Dundee last night. The storm was accompanied by a gusting wind. The rain was widely welcomed as the Endumeni area is in the grips of a crippling drought that has forced the introduction of severe water restrictions.
