3-day maintenance at Ezakheni plant will affect water supply

The following areas will be affected: Ezakheni, Acaciavale, Steadville, parts of St Chad's and Tsakane

uThukela District Municipality released the following statement with regards to the water supply from the Ezakheni Water Treatment Works over the next three days…

Umgeni Water will be carrying out essential maintenance on one of the clarifiers at the Ezakheni Water Treatment Works. This is due to sludge that has built up over time and is affecting the water treatment capability of the works.

The recent storms and muddy water has exacerbated the situation and it has become critical that the plant operations be partially shut down to remove the accumulated sludge and carry out mechanical repairs to the clarifier. The plant shutdown is planned to run over a three-day period, commencing on February 13 at 2am and ending on February 15 at 5pm.

During these days, the Ezakheni Water Treatment Works will be operating at 40% of its plant capacity while de-sludging and mechanical repairs take place on the clarifier.

The following areas will be affected: Ezakheni, Acaciavale, Steadville, parts of St Chad’s and Tsakane.

Please note that timeframes are based on the best estimated period to carry out the work, provided no unforeseen circumstances arise during the repairs and de-sludging process.

Regular updates will be provided as required.
