Gaping potholes continue to plague Estcourt

A Lorne Street businessman thinks that the local municipality does not care about concerns raised by ratepayers

Last week the Estcourt News reported on every motorist’s worst nightmare – potholes.

Local businessmen are up in arms over the number and size of potholes and have demanded speedy repair.

Despite being asked countless times for the pothole repair plan to be unveiled, Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality has not responded. Meanwhile, recent rains have seen road conditions deteriorate.

The combination of wet conditions over long periods, excessive traffic and poorly maintained roads is a recipe for the development of more potholes.

“It is sad to see that our municipality is not giving our concerns any attention. As a ratepayer, I do expect more. It makes me wonder what happens or happened to the funds allocated for these repairs,” commented a Lorne Street businessman, who commented on condition of anonymity due to fear of victimisation.

He did, however, wish to thank the relevant department that repaired the upper Canna Avenue potholes near Forderville Primary School last week. Some locals have turned to ‘self-healing’ the potholes after losing any hope that the municipality will step in and play its part.
