The Mayor then engaged with the community and his team regarding the report to be presented. Acting Area Engineer Sakhile Dube took the community through the progress that has been made, which includes:

– waiting for the delivery of the pump engine to be installed to reservoir.
– water tanker was dispatched but couldn’t reach certain areas due to wet weather. Another one will be sent.
– all the boreholes that were reportedly not functioning properly were fixed.

The Mayor emphasised that all the other areas that are without any boreholes will be assisted. On the issue of water tankers, he said a roster will be developed to service the area.

On hiring the driver from the area, as requested, he told the community that for now there are no driver posts or budget. The Mayor committed to engage with the Uthukela district management team to resolve other outstanding issues.

The team then went to visit Thembalihle where it was alleged people blockaded the road protesting against water shortages in this area.

He told protesters that the project to supply water to the entire community of Weenen is underway.
Water tankers were dispatched to the area and will continue as a short term solution until the engine pumps are fixed.
