Mechanical faults cause another refuse removal delay in Estcourt

The Municipal Manager says that both refuse compactors require ‘urgent mechanical attention’

Mechanical breakdowns have struck the two municipal refuse compactors yet again. During the past week, waste removal services have been disrupted.

Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality has issued a public apology to the affected communities.

“Waste could not be collected due to the fact that two of our refuse compactors are broken and require urgent mechanical attention,” explained Municipal Manager Patrick Mkhize.

This will hamper refuse removal until March 6.

“The collection schedule may continue as normal from March 7. We anticipate the readiness of our compactors for collection by then,” he added.

Residents have been sharing their frustration on social media.

A WhatsApp message received by the Estcourt News read: “My refuse has been lying in the street since February 25. When is this nonsense going to end? I pay R970 rates for what? New cars?”
