Welcome-back party for Môrester children a great success

The Môrester children were all returned to the children’s home on Friday, February 22, after being removed by the Department of Social Development.
To celebrate their return, a massive party was held last Saturday (March 2) at the children’s home.
The Ladysmith Gazette, together with Môrester staff and members of the community, made sure the children had a fun-filled day they will remember for a long time to come.
Everyone gathered on the Môrester sports field, eagerly waiting for the festivities to begin.
The Ladysmith Gazette team happily entertained the children, with staff members playing soccer with them and also painting their faces as their favourite action heroes.
Community members and Gazette staff braai’ed up a delicious lunch, which the children hungrily devoured. It was fun galore, with happiness etched in the smiles of countless young faces as they bounced around in the jumping castles and danced to the beat of the music that boomed throughout the day.
Then it was time to cut the massive “Welcome Back” cake. Outstretched hands eagerly claimed the delicious pieces of cake, and mouths munched to their heart’s content.
The children’s day ended off with sweetie packs being handed out to them by the Gazette, which was the cherry on top. Speaking to Môrester Children’s Home director Lizette van Niekerk, she said, “I don’t have words to describe how much the children enjoyed the day and I’m grateful for the support and help that came from the community to welcome the children back at Môrester.”
