One ‘Eck of a terrible road to contend with in the industrial area
"Which investor would come and put money into Dundee when our industrial area looks like this?"

Driving to work on Van Eck Road is a bit like taking on the Dakar Rally in South America.
The huge potholes, rutted road – what is left of it – makes driving a nightmare.
And those who work and run mainly factories in the area, adjacent to Forestdale, say they have had enough.
The recent heavy rains have exacerbated the problem, which the Nair family of Nairmet Window Manufacturing, say is now unbearable.
“We’ve notified the municipality many times but nothing is being done about it and we are paying high rates,” said Pasu Nair.
“Motorists have to avoid the main road and drive on the pavement as the road is completely undriveable. Our vehicles are getting stuck in the potholes now. We have a lot of outside reps and managers coming through to see us who have to endure that with their vehicles. This is just a horrible representation of Dundee as we are the industrial area of the town.”
Asked for comment FC Bester of the Endumeni Residents’ Association said he has been asking the municipality to pay attention to the industrial area for months.

“It is in a poor state. The roads are shocking, street lights are not working and everything looks scruffy. Which investor would come and put money into Dundee when our industrial area looks like this?”
Asked to comment Speaker of Council, Lucky Khumalo, acknowledged that much work must be done ‘to get the municipal area back on track’ (see interview elsewhere in this issue) and hoped that a grant of over R7,5-million to Endumeni from COGTA to purchase a grader and other much-needed equipment to fix roads would assist.
