Mr Shelembe is now a new DA member and says his decision was informed after looking at the current political climate in the country.

“It became clear that in order for me to deal with the challenges in the present government, I need to join a stronger party,” said Mr Shelembe.

He added that the perception that the DA was for ‘white people’ had also changed and points out national and provincial appointments. DA Chairperson in the local region Ugan Chetty said the party is ecstatic.

“We know Mr Shelembe is a seasoned politician and will take the DA to great height within the region,” commented Mr Chetty.
