Ambulance gets stuck on muddy road

Speaking for the Department of Health in Amajuba District, Public Relations Officer, Nonhlanhla Khuzwayo, said they were very concerned about the situation.

Community members took to social media to express their frustrations about the shocking condition of some of the roads in Newcastle.

This, came about after an EMS ambulance got stuck on one of Blaauwbosch’s gravel road recently, after the recent heavy rains.

Speaking for the Department of Health in Amajuba District, Public Relations Officer, Nonhlanhla Khuzwayo, said they were very concerned about the situation.

“There is not much I can say, but as far as I know, we try by any means possible to get medical services to the people. If a certain road fails us, that is beyond our control. If needs be, I know medical personnel would walk to reach the patients. We also wish the roads could be repaired, so that every patient can receive the treatment they deserve.”

Head of Communications in the Municipality, Dr Thabethe, had previously stated that after the mayor’s SOTA and the Draft Budget, a team of technicians would sit down and discuss how damaged roads in the municipality were to be repaired.

Khuzwayo had formerly advised community members to speak to their local councillors about problems encountered in their communities, before going to social media or protesting.

“Councillors are there to address such issues. They are the link to communications with the mayor. People should attend public meetings where they can talk about all the problems they face in their wards. This is where they will report the problems in their wards and how the councillors plan to go about resolving these problems.”
