Biliary hits dogs in Ladysmith

Ticks transmit an infectious parasite into a dog’s bloodstream, which kills red blood cells

Biliary has hit Ladysmith hard!

For those who don’t know, biliary is tick bite fever in dogs.

Ticks transmit an infectious parasite into a dog’s bloodstream through a bite. Once in the bloodstream, it multiplies within the red blood cells and invades other red blood cells, causing destruction of these cells and resulting in severe anaemia and other complications.

If the dog is not treated, it will die.

The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) is appealing to pet owners to please make sure their dogs are free of ticks and fleas to prevent them from picking up this life-threatening disease.
