“It is alleged that the deceased and the suspect were embroiled in a heated argument, which culminated in the suspect pulling out a firearm and shooting the deceased. The victim sustained several gunshot wounds,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

After fleeing the scene, the suspect made his way towards Ladysmith. Lieutenant Colonel Ramlagan from Bergville wasted no time in notifying the Ladysmith K9 Unit, as well as Ladysmith Visible Policing officers. Lt Col Ramlagan immediately made her way to Ladysmith to oversee the arrest.

The murder suspect was nabbed at a hitchhiking spot, getting off a taxi that was destined for Johannesburg.

Quick-acting officers pounced on the man, giving him no chance to get rid of the murder weapon. Police arrested him with a 9mm pistol, loaded with seven rounds of ammunition. The pistol was licensed in the suspect’s name.
The man has appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court, facing a murder charge.
