History made as two BBAC runners earn Comrades silver

Two Biggarsberg Athletics Club (BBAC) members have made history, after both earning silver medals in today’s Comrades Marathon.

This is the first time two members of the club have earned silver medals in the iconic ultra marathon.

Joe Khumalo and Bongani Sabela both crossed the finish line at Scottsville, Pietermaritzburg, before the 7 hours 30 minute cut off.

Joe finished in a time of 7:25:46 and Bongani, who had only had seconds to spare, in 7:29:46.

Lani van der Mescht, BBAC chairperson, was reduced to tears of joy upon hearing the news of the double silver haul.
