Alleged Vryheid serial rapist brought down

The man is said to have raped numerous women around Vryheid, especially targeting drunk women as they left taverns.

A joint operation by Vryheid SAPS units, led to the arrest of an alleged serial rapist yesterday.
Members of SAPS are said to have set out in the early hours of the morning, in hot pursuit of a man believed to have been targeting and raping women as they left taverns.
It is believed the suspect was arrested in December 2017, after being linked to at least 16 cases including rape, robbery, breaking and entering, theft and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
He was released from prison however, after the charges against him were apparently withdrawn.
Police launched a manhunt for the suspect after a series of rape cases reported this year.
In some instances couples were attacked, while in others, the couples were forced at gunpoint to engage in sexual activity with one another.
In an operation, led by Warrant Officer Jethro Khumalo, Ulundi POP Unit, Vryheid Tracing Team, Zululand Task Team, Vryheid K9 Unit and Vryheid Crime Intelligence, the man was nabbed in the KwaBoyana area.
This is a developing story and more details will follow as they become available.
