8-year-old boy savagely beaten
"One of the children then pointed out my brother, upon which the man punched him in the face. He continued hitting him until he fell to the ground."

A Sithembile family is demanding justice, after an 8-year-old boy was savagely assaulted. The perpetrator of this alleged assault was a man, travelling in an Umzinyathi District Municipality vehicle.
A visibly upset Nonkululeko Malinga, the boy’s sister, recalled her brother and some friends were playing in the street, when they saw workers from the district municipality busy repairing mains waterworks in the area.
“When the bakkie passed the boys, they playfully shouted to the men. The driver immediately pulled over and a man stepped out, demanding who had shouted at them [the workers]. The children all denied they had said anything untoward. One of the children then pointed out my brother, upon which the man punched him in the face. He continued hitting him until he fell to the ground.”
Upon hearing the commotion, Nonkululeko, who was at home at the time, rushed outside. She said she asked the man why he was hitting her little brother, and he sword at her. He then returned to the municipal bakkie and it drove away. Nonkululeko has since laid charges at the Glencoe Police Station.

Police confirmed having knowledge of the case, and said the docket was with the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. At the time of going to press this week, the Courier was unable to obtain comment from Umzinyathi District Municipality, regarding this incident.
“What this man did is unforgivable and unnecessary. He is only eight. He is also an epileptic. What if he had had a seizure during the assault – what would have happened then?”
