Aborted foetus found buried in shallow grave

It is alleged that a woman in her 20s tried to conceal an abortion by burying the baby’s body in her yard

UPDATEPolice question woman in connection with buried foetus

Earlier this afternoon, police were at a home in Rensburgdrift, seeking clues and gathering statements after the lifeless body of a foetus was found.

According to a trusted source, who did not want to be named due to relations with the family, a young woman believed to be in her early 20s, allegedly aborted a foetus a few days earlier.

“We are not sure about the date of the abortion but the woman allegedly aborted the child in a toilet. She removed the foetus from the toilet pan, wrapped it in a cloth and kept it in a wardrobe,” said the source.

The foul smell allegedly became too much for a friend who was living in the house and this allegedly prompted the woman to remove the decomposing body and take it to a corner in the yard and bury it in a shallow grave.

“Yesterday children who were playing nearby saw her and she chased them away. Today, her friend had a guilty conscience and called the police to tell them about the child,” said the source.

It is alleged that police recovered the child’s body in a shallow grave earlier this afternoon.

The police communication office has been contacted for an official comment, which will be updated as soon as it is received.
