‘Nothing burns like the cold’ is the slogan of the Round Table Winter Knights campaign.
The ‘knights’ of Vryheid’s Round Table 129 were not above placing themselves in the chilling grip of winter last Friday night, to display their empathy for the less fortunate members of the community. This was all done for a good cause too.
“The initial concept originated as an almost social experiment with our members [Tablers] having to spend a few hours in winter, wearing light clothing, experiencing first-hand the burning cold suffered by so many less fortunate people,” explained Arno Kotze of Round Table Southern Africa. “It was hoped members of their communities would come forth with blankets and old clothing, which the Tablers could use to keep warm and then once the project was concluded, donate on to worthy causes.”

Kotze said the project has evolved over the years, with many Tablers showing great initiative and forward-thinking in their approach. He said this included: “…Everything from trolleys being filled at shopping malls, door-to-door collections, corporate donations, creating campaigns with big corporates and initiatives that evoke the passion of entire towns, to rally behind the Winter Knights initiative.”
