Senior political and administrative leadership were invited to the one-day event held at the Okhahlamba Sports Centre where key issues and new policy directives were discussed.

Munimec is a forum for local government officials to engage on specific issues relating to service delivery in communities and focusing on delivering on the commitments promised.

The key issues that Mr Hlomuka spoke on centred on good governance, stability in municipalities as well as fighting corruption.

He used Okhahlamba Local Municipality as a shining example, referring to their clean audit and being the only municipality in the province to achieve this.
Mr Hlomuka encouraged the local government heads present to reclaim the confidence that was lost by effectively managing resources at municipalities.
“I believe that, going forward, we should be more proactive in raising the red flags before things deteriorate too far for us to take quick remedial action. One of the prerequisites of well-run municipalities and traditional institutions is that they must enjoy high levels of stability. We appeal that we stop engaging in power games and occupy ourselves more with services to the community,” he commented.
Encouraging municipal leaders to work together to improve lives in the communities, Mr said: “The question now is where do we go from here and the answer can only be “implement”! Deliver! Implement faster!”
