Ladysmith community goes on the rampage after man has his throat slit

An angry mob proceeded to the home of the 22-year-old suspect and burnt down the house

Police made a shocking discovery recently when a man was found with his throat slit in the Ekuvukeni area. It is believed that the deceased was a teacher in Ladysmith.

Several items were missing from the man’s home, including his licensed firearm, a microwave and a TV set.
The deceased’s car was also missing. Police managed to trace the vehicle to an area about 10km away from where the murder was committed.

Fast-acting police arrested two suspects, aged 18 and 22, who were both detained at Ezakheni police station.

The community of Ekuvukeni was livid in the aftermath of the murder and decided to take matters into their own hands. An angry mob went to the home of the 22-year-old suspect and burnt down the house.

10 vehicles were parked in the yard. These vehicles belonged to clients of the suspect’s father, who was busy fixing them, as he is a mechanic by profession. The cars were also all burnt to ashes.

Speaking to Ladysmith police communication liaison Captain Nyathi, he confirmed the incident and that two suspects had been arrested and detained at Ezakheni police station.

He further stated that the two suspects appeared in the Ekuvukeni Magistrate’s Court on Monday (July 1), where they applied for bail. The case was postponed to July 9.
