Police say that house burglaries are popping up all over town, with homeowners having items stolen from their yards and homes.
On Friday, June 21, an elderly homeowner in Gandhi Road fell victim to theft from her home. Children came to the house asking for R2 and then went on their way. Only after the children had left did she realise that clothing had been stolen from the washing line.
On Sunday morning, a house in Rangoon Road was burgled by unknown suspects. Police say that no one has been arrested at this stage and they are currently investigating a residential burglary case. Police request anyone who has information regarding this case to contact them on 0366383309 or Crime Stop on 0860010111
Police add that there have been other incidents of this nature, where homes have been broken into in Ladysmith. In most cases, homes in residential areas are targeted when the owners are away for a period of more than three hours.
To combat this spate of break-ins, police are increasing their visibility by patrolling with blue lights on.

Communication liaison & marketing officer Captain Nyathi comments that police can be seen around the CBD, as well as patrolling both residential and rural areas.
He adds that people are advised to make sure their homes are properly locked up and to get someone to look after their properties during periods when they are away.
In most cases, crimes are committed when no one is looking after properties.
Furthermore, Capt Nyathi warns people to stop buying stolen goods, as criminals will continue committing crimes if a market is available.
