Teens are all about the bass

Both their fathers have played an active role in their sons’ passion for the hobby and use it as a way of developing a father-son bond.

Shaylan Praag (16) and Sahil Govender (14) may look like your average teenagers, but there is one thing that makes them unique – their love of car sound.

The two agree their passion stemmed from listening to other car sound fanatics and attending car shows from a young age.

“I was inspired by other car sound cars to get interested in the game,” said Shaylan.

Both their fathers have played an active role in their sons’ passion for the hobby and use it as a way of developing a father-son bond.

“My father helps me to connect the sound and we work on it together,” they reiterated.

Shaylan’s father added, “It is an expensive hobby but it’s interesting and keeps the young ones occupied.”

Shaylan has entered other car sound shows where he has hit a record of 142.5 decibels and placed first in his class, while Sahil’s highest achievement was a whopping 153 decibels.

The boys will be competing in the Speed and Sound Magazine Street Kings Challenge.

Organiser, Terence Chetty said the competition was aimed at beginners with everyday car sound skills.

“These are the youngest competitors we have who are entering the challenge and it is going to be exciting to watch.”
