Chief Hlongwane was driving a Land Rover from Bergville when a horrific collision occurred in 2017, which claimed the lives of five people. State Prosecutor Mrs Mosia rejected the defence’s proposed sentence of imprisonment wholly suspended.

He is facing charges of 5 counts of culpable homicide. The defence, along with the State, agreed that on October 11, the accused (Chief Hlongwane) will be consulted and settle on a plea.

Based on that, the trial will proceed on December 6. Chief Hlongwane is out on bail and was made aware of the adjournment for consultation.
