Speaker’s theft case postponed

The case was postponed to April 6 this year.

Speaker of AbaQulusi Municipality, Michael Khumalo is confident he will win the case against him after allegedly stealing a municipal fire engine generator.
“We do not even have to discuss it. It’s a given, but I will continue to comply with the law and come to court whenever I am needed,” said Cllr Khumalo.
He appeared in Vryheid Magistrates’ Court on Monday, following from his arrest at his office at the Vryheid municipal building on December 5, 2019.

The arrest came after allegations made by members of the ANC, that Cllr Khumalo stole a generator out of a municipal fire engine in 2017, and kept it at his homestead for two years for his personal use.
Cllr Khumalo admitted to having the generator at his homestead, but claimed it was being stored there after a roadshow in his ward, as there were no safe government facilities in the area.
He added he had no reason to steal the municipal generator as he had one of his own and solar panels to augment electricity at his home.
The case was postponed to April 6 this year.

After the case against him was postponed, AbaQulusi Speaker, Michael Khumalo says he will let the law take its course.
