SAPS and traffic officials swoop on illegal house restaurant

The business was not permitted to open and had no license to operate during the lockdown.

SAPS members and traffic officials confiscated pots of prepared food, maas, juices and catering equipment from a home-based restaurant on Oldacre Street earlier tonight (Tuesday).

The establishment was deemed to be operating in contravention of lockdown regulations, which resulted in four people – a foreign national and three women – being taken into custody.

Frikkie Coetsee of the Endumeni Traffic Department said law enforcement had acted on intelligence and arrived at the house this evening, to find food being prepared for takeaway and on-site consumption. He confirmed the business was not permitted to be open and had no license to operate during the lockdown.

Those charged with contravening the regulations are expected to appear in court tomorrow.
