[GALLERY] 30 Newcastle families benefit from relief project
Volunteers arrived in multiple vehicles laden with donations, to help local families survive.
Approximately 30 local families received relief hampers this month, through the ongoing work of non-government disaster response foundation, Gift of the Givers (Estcourt branch) and the Boundary Road Mosque.
The handover took place NG Kerk Die Kruin last Tuesday.
Hampers were comprised of staples such as mielie meal, rice, porridge mix and canned goods including baked beans and pilchards, plus cappuccino sachets and sweets to ‘sweeten’ the gesture. This was welcomed in a period rife with job losses and suffering.
Local businessman, Ahmed Aziz explained the mosque and the foundation had partnered to provide relief for local families. Representing the foundation was Jaaved Khan and his team, who arrived at the church premises in multiple vehicles bearing the elements of the relief hampers.
Prior to the handover of the hampers, Khan explained that Gift of the Givers was founded in 1992 by Imtiaz Sooliman, and is the biggest non-governmental disaster response organisation of African origin on the African continent. The foundation serves no matter a recipient’s race, religion or social status.
“Today, we ask you to pray for the team to continue giving aid across the country.”
