A taxi driver was brutally gunned down on Wednesday (June 3) by unknown suspects.

26-year-old Sabelo Zwane died in a hail of bullets in Tsakane after it is believed that he stopped to pick up hitchhikers. The Quantum minibus he was driving was riddled with bullet holes.

According to provincial police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala, Ladysmith police are investigating a case of murder.

The taxi driver sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body and was declared dead at the scene.

Captain Gwala added that the motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.
