Reaching out to the destitute

"Our aim is to try and make sure that no one in our communities goes to bed starving"

Giving back to the neediest in the community was the mission when two locals set off to distribute food parcels recently.

Maliyakhe Shelembe (Member of Parliament) and Ugan Chetty (proportional representation councillor) took a personal initiative to reach out to residents who have been left out by other lockdown food relief efforts.

“It was also our intention to give back to our communities and for them to acknowledge that we understand the hardships they have been experiencing during this lockdown. Our aim is to try and make sure that no one in our communities goes to bed starving. We are grateful to our activists for assisting during distribution,” said Mr Shelembe.

250 food parcels, which included fresh produce and grocery essentials, were distributed.
