According to Ward councillor Mzwandile Sibiya, who visited the family, the police are investigating the cause of the fire. “We would like to send our condolences to the Xulu family on losing their loved one in this manner. Even though we are still waiting for the police investigation into the cause of the fire, we suspect that cigarettes may have caused the blaze. However, we are unsure at this stage. It is said he had just come out of hospital a few days prior, only to pass on in front of his elderly mother like this. We are very saddened by his passing; may his family find healing,” said Cllr Sibiya. The mayor of Ulundi, Cllr Wilson Ntshangase, will also visit the family soon.
