Primary school closed after Covid-19 case reported

“We are working closely with the Health Department to re-open the school very soon”

ML Sultan Estcourt Primary School remains temporarily closed after Covid-19 exposure.

Last Thursday (June 18), parents from the school were informed via a letter from the Principal a positive case of Covid-19 had been reported at the school and as a precautionary measure, the school would be sanitised and learners and staff would self-isolate.

Education Department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi confirmed on Monday (June 22) that the school is closed.

“We are working closely with the Health Department to re-open the school very soon,” he said.

Mr Mahlambi further explained the process undertaken when a positive Covid-19 case is reported at a school.

“As soon as a case is reported, we work with the Health Department that goes to the school to disinfect and sanitize, which takes three days. All activity is temporarily suspended until all protocols are followed. Those that have in contact with an infected person is traced, isolated and tested,” he said.

The public is advised to call the coronavirus hotline on 0800 029 999 with any suspected cases of corona, or to report or obtain information relevant to the pandemic.
