Non-operational municipal vehicles sold on auction

"After the auction process, all of the vehicles were taken by their owners"

In January last year, eyebrows were raised when locals noticed a large number of non-operational vehicles being kept at the fire station at the corner of Subway Road and Elizabeth Avenue.

One resident described the fire station as a scrap yard and wondered what purpose the vehicles were serving being harboured there.

“Our fire station looks like a scrap yard; cars are jacked up. This looks very bad and I want to know what the reason for this is,” said the resident.

Months later, more questions surfaced as more and more vehicles began piling up in the fire station’s spacious yard. But Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality remained silent about the reason for the vehicles being kept there, or what its intention was.

Recently, it was noticed that lots of vehicles had been removed from the fire station yard. Municipal Manager (MM) Patrick Mkhize was again asked for clarity, and this time he responded.

Mr Mkhize said the vehicles had been sold at an auction.

“The municipal vehicles that were parked at the fire station awaited an auction. After the auction process, all of the vehicles were taken by their owners,” commented the MM.
