Blocked storm-water drains pose major problem for Ladysmith residents

Numerous storm-water drains are causing major problems in and around Ladysmith.

When a Ladysmith Gazette journalist went out for a burst water pipe story in Balsam Avenue, he was shocked to see that the drains were totally blocked, with no water being able to flow through them.

With a major leak in the street, water was seen streaming into the drainage system, only to be kept out by all the rubbish blocking the system.

The water was just pooling and becoming stagnant in the street due to a large amount of debris and refuse thrown into the drains.

One resident commented that winter, when there’s no rain, is the ideal time for the municipality to get their act together and clean the drains, but this doesn’t seem to be happening.

The resident went on to say that people also need to stop throwing their rubbish into storm-water drains, which in turn causes blockages.

He hopes the municipality will act fast to avoid these types of situations.
