Union marches to demand ‘fairness for Community Health Workers’

A large crowd gathered outside the District Health offices with SAPS present

Health Workers. represented by the NUPSAW Union. marched on the Umzinyathi District Health Department on Willson Street this morning to present a memorandum to Health Department officials.

The memorandum called for, among other issues, Community Health Workers (CHWs), to be paid danger money, to be provided with ‘proper access to PPE’ and for the CHWs to be given full time status with the DoH.

The Government has dispatched 28 000 CHWs nationwide to screen and test people for the Covid-19 virus in vulnerable communities.

NUPSAW representatives Jabu Ndlozi and SR Khumalo present the memorandum to N Shezi of the DoH.
