Ladysmith KZN: 18 people killed in accidents

A horror accident near Underberg claimed the lives of 12 people

There has been a heavy death toll on NKZN  and Midlands roads over the weekend, with 18 dead so far…

Six people were killed and five others injured when a bakkie rolled on the S61 road in the Besters area, outside of Ladysmith, on Friday evening (October 9). Several people were found lying around the vehicle.
 
Five were declared dead at the scene.
 
Paramedics assisted the injured with advanced life support before they were transported to nearby hospitals for further care. A critically injured patient succumbed to their injuries on arrival at hospital.
 
Local authorities were on scene for investigations.

This was followed by a horror accident near Underberg, which claimed the lives of 12 people on Saturday (October 10). The fatal accident happened in Kilimon near Underberg on Saturday afternoon. A child was among the 12 people believed to be from one family who lost their lives when their minibus taxi rolled down an embankment after the driver lost control of the vehicle. Three other people were injured and transported to nearby hospitals. The scene will be visited by KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala, who will be accompanied by Transport & Community Safety MEC Bheki Ntuli. The MEC described the crash as “gut-wrenching and very painful.”
