Another sewage leak has been reported along this river; this time at the back of Zinnia Road (also known as Paradise).

A resident from the area, who asked not to be named, said that the leak has been ongoing for more than eight months.
The leak, resembling a mini-fountain, emanates from a pipe that is located on a bridge across the river.

A foul smell hangs in the air, even from metres away.

“We have phoned the district municipality many times to report this sewer leak. I have even brought it to the attention of the ward councillor, but nothing has happened. I am always told that someone will be sent to sort it out,” said the resident.

His anxiety is growing each day at the thought of people consuming the contaminated water.

“The water from this river goes as far as Weenen, where many people rely on it for drinking and washing. They could become severely sick,” said the resident.
