DUNDEE KZN: Thambani Collection boost for Talana Museum

The collection was officially opened on Saturday,

Despite recording its worse year in memory, the tourism industry has received a much-needed boost with the opening of the new Thembani Collection at Talana Museum.

Housed in user-friendly viewing boxes in what was the Museum Shop (now located at the visitor entrance), the collection was officially opened on Saturday, with Nico and Rina Harris pleased that the valuable compilation has been kept in Talana Museum for preservation.

The exhibit consists of hundreds of artifacts collected from the Zulu War battlefields over half a century, together with an excellent collection of Zulu traditional weapons, household items and a truly magnificent war shield in the red and white colours of the uThulwana Ibutho, which could easily have been used at the Battle of Rorke’s Drift. Make a point of visiting the Museum and seeing the collection for yourself!
