Ladysmith KZN: Power out as cars crash into electricity repair site

The entire CBD, from Game up to the San Marco Centre, went dark

A spate of car crashes opposite the police station kept police and Public Safety busy last night (December 11).

The first accident involved two cars that collided at the intersection opposite the police station.

When the occupants of one of the vehicles approached the second car, it sped away.

A high-speed chase ensued and the second car later crashed near the Indoor Sports Complex.

In a second multi-car accident involving four vehicles, a newly-repaired power cable was destroyed, leaving parts of the CBD in darkness.

Two vehicles collided at the intersection in front of the police station, with one of them smashing into municipal electricity repair-work and taking out road signs at the Super Service Station corner, before ploughing into two parked vehicles (a car and a taxi).

As the car drove over the repair site, sparks shot into the air and the entire CBD – from Game, past the police station, up to the San Marco Centre – went dark.

Both accidents happened during heavy rain. No serious injuries were reported in the second crash.
