DUNDEE: Fireworks, candles and gunshots let in 2021

Gunshots were fired in the air

A stray bullet smashed a window of a Robertson Lane house last night, December 31.

Those in the house were said to be ‘shaken’ but not injured. SAPS were soon on the scene near the Dundee Railway Station.

It was said that it appeared as if new year revelers had fired a shot into the air and as one policeman said ‘what goes up must come down’.

Other than that it appeared as if most residents had paid heed to the new 9pm curfew introduced on Tuesday by President Ramaphosa.

Fireworks and the usual ‘big bangs’ did shatter the night air as many stayed at home to let in 2021. Firework sellers reported ‘less brisk sales’ than in previous years.

While liquor stores remain closed until at least January 15 it appeared as if many had managed to get their hands and lips on booze to celebrated the start of the new year.

The KZN Health Department reported the birth of 38 New Year babies at Provincial hospitals.

Of these 18 were boys and 20 girls.

Fireworks lit up the night sky over Endumeni.
