NEWCASTLE KZN: Amajuba District pays tribute to late Cllr Khabanyane
At the time of his death, Cllr Khabanyane served on the district's Planning and Engineering Committee.
After a brief illness, Amajuba District Councillor, Ntuntu Canisius ‘Khabs’ Khabanyane has passed away.
In a press statement today, leadership of the Amajuba District Municipality expressed sadness at news of Cllr Khabanyane’s passing and remembered his ‘endless efforts and selflessness in enhancing the lives of the people of the district’.
As a deployee of the African National Congress, Cllr Khabanyane was a senior councillor and at the time of his death served as a member of the Planning and Engineering Committee, in addition to his tenure as chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC).
“The Amajuba District has lost an inspired and a great man. With his passing, there will be an immense void not only in his family’s lives, but also in those people of Amajuba District and the many others whose lives have been changed through his fight for peace, justice, freedom and service delivery.”
The Amajuba District added that Cllr Khabanyane exhibited courage, persistence and perseverance, remaining energetic despite his age and considered a source of knowledge especially to the young councillors he served with.
“Cllr Khabanyane passes away at a time when the country is dealing with a Covid-19 pandemic and we were inspired by his efforts in fighting the virus. He was always at the forefront and took part in the District Command Council, a structure coordinated to deal with matters related to Covid-19.”
The Amajuba District Municipality family sent its heartfelt condolences to the Khabanyane family, his friends and colleagues, and all those who knew him. Funeral details will be communicated after proper consultation with the family.
