NEWCASTLE KZN: Police arrest 12 suspects for failing to adhere to Covid-19 regulations

The 12 offenders have been charged with contravening the Disaster Management Act of 2020.

Local police are taking a firm stance on complying to national Covid-19 regulations.

This was evident in several arrests made on Saturday, March 6 in the Osizweni area.

“Osizweni Crime Prevention members were doing routine patrols in Sections A and D1 when they noticed a number of residents without their facemasks on,” commented Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications office.

“The 12 suspects caught ranged in age from 21 to 42 and were charged for contravening the Disaster Management Act of 2020. They have since appeared in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court,” she concluded.
