DUNDEE KZN: Ward 2 goes back to the polls

Voter apathy is the candidates greatest opponent

Ward 2 voters in Dundee will go back to the polls next Wednesday, May 19, for a by election. The seat became vacant following the sudden death earlier this year of former Mayor, Thulani Mahaye.

Only three candidates will be contesting: Nisha Arends of the EEF, Ukhona Robin Kubheka of the IFP and Amina Sadeck, the ANC’s candidate.

The DA that previously held the Ward before the demarcation board hived off the new extensions, adjacent to the airfield, into the Ward have said they will not be contesting as the party is gearing up for the October 27 local government elections and have ploughed all their resources there.

In 2016, Mr Mahaye beat the DA’s Anthon Raubenheimer by 1116 votes to 924 with the IFP garnering 345 ballots.

Voting districts are at Dundee Junior and at the Horse Racing Club House at the Rural Horse Riding Trace. With by elections day not being public holidays, a low voter turn out is expected.
