GLENCOE KZN: Sarel Cilliers mourns passing of loyal Pradeep
The group of Sarel Cilliers learners who took part in the Inter-Schools public speaking competition.
Pradeep Beharie passed away unexpectedly on Sunday at the age of 50. Pradeep had been employed at the school for thirteen years and was a familiar figure on the school grounds.
Pradeep’s daughter attended Sarel Cilliers and Pradeep was involved with the school in a parental role and well as in the role of a valued employee, always ready to help out where needed.
In recent Covid 19 times he was responsible for sanitizing the school and hostel, a familiar figure with his fogging apparatus, managing to clear a classroom of noisy children in a matter of seconds, and often coming in on Sundays and out of hours in order to keep the school on par with the health and safety requirements.
Well known as a general jack-of-all trades, Pradeep Beharie was able to turn his hand to most things. It is with great shock and sadness that we hear of his passing. He will be sorely missed.
Angling Club braves icy morning to go fishing.
The Sarel Cilliers Angling Club set out before the break of dawn, braving frosty temperatures of 1C on Saturday morning to go fishing at Chelmsford Dam. Three educators, including the Principal Mr Soobramoney, accompanied the learners. However, the early start and chilly temperatures were rewarded with some excellent catches. Mfuneko Magasela won the day, bagging a 2kg carp while Kylin Swanepoel proved to be the best female angler. It was a fun day and with most the learners able to catch something, with many of them being their first time catching a fish, the day is something the learners will never forget.
Inter-Schools Public Speaking Competition.
Friday saw the arrival of a number of excited but nervous learners at Lion’s Den, nervously reciting speeches and all ready to take part in the Inter School Public Speaking Competition between Sarel Cilliers High School and ML Sultan, Glencoe. With 12 learners taking part, the competition was well supported and there were a number of outstanding orators who show great promise for future competitions. Congratulations to the Grade 10 winner for Sarel Cilliers Maryke Van Jaarsveld.
The Grade 11 winner was Leticia Naicker from ML Sultan. In a time of limited sports functions and limited opportunity for competition, this was an exciting opportunity for leaners to show off their talents and take part in an event which allows the learners to evaluate their own skills against the skills of others. Each learner received a certificate of merit, with trophies for the winners. Well done to all those who took part and to Miss R Singh for her great organization of the event.
