DUNDEE KZN: Electrical boxes are now public urinals

The almost constant flow of urine is turning the electrical sub units into rust boxes

Electrical sub-stations in the central business district have become public urinals.

An in-loco inspection by the Courier found that the constant flow of human urine on the sub-stations has caused the metal to rust and in one case – in Smith Street near the taxi rank – the pee has eroded a hole in the back of the box, exposing cabling.

Recently, a man having a ‘wee’ against the unit threw an empty can into the hole, causing the unit to ‘short out’. Besides urine, the area around the sub unit is heavily polluted with litter and even old tyres – heightening the risk of fire.
