DUNDEE KZN: Umzinyathi Mayor launches major Wasbank water project

This project proves our commitment to upgrading our water infrastructure and fighting poverty in the district - as a number of job opportunities will be created by this project.

Wasbank residents, who have long complained of being neglected when it comes to service delivery, will have their water woes eased thanks to a R26-million water supply project unveiled by Umzinyathi District Municipality.

District Mayor Alderman Petrus Ngubane said at the project launch of the Ruigtefontien Water Supply scheme, in Endumeni Municipality’s Ward 1, that the project will supply both the Wasbank and Kunene farm areas with much-needed water.

Introducing the contractor to the community, Mayor Ngubane said that Umzinyathi District Municipality is continuing with being at the forefront of delivering much-needed services to residents. “This is the second phase of this project; the first phase was completed and launched in 2019.

The district’s commitment to fast-track service delivery, especially in water and sanitation, is unwavering and projects like the Ruigtefontein Water Supply are testament to that commitment.

This project proves our commitment to upgrading our water infrastructure and fighting poverty in the district – as a number of job opportunities will be created by this project. As Umzinyathi, we make sure all the contractors we employ also employ local people in all our projects,” said Mayor Ngubane.

As his closing remarks. Mayor Ngubane pleaded with the community to work together with the municipality in making sure that service delivery is fast-tracked, “In this new financial year of 2021/2022, we are still going to have a number of sod turnings and project launches. Please bear with us, as some projects are still continuing. Please respect the contractors who are working on the ground and do not steal or vandalise the infrastructure.”
