Ladysmith KZN: Armed robbery in Alexandra Street

One of the suspects was arrested

An armed robbery took place at a shop in Alexandra Street today (October 13).

Four or five suspects entered the Bago wholesale store and demanded cash. The owner and two of his employees were stabbed, and needed medical attention. They were later stabilized by a doctor in the area.

The suspects also had guns and fired shots into the air.

The shop owner next door said he heard gunshots and rushed outside to see what was going on. There was screaming and a commotion coming from Bago, so he quickly alerted the police and pressed his alarm.

Emergency personnel, Ladysmith SAPS and a security company responded to the scene.

The robbers stole cash and cellphones before fleeing.

The staff were petrified after the ordeal. A crowd of people gathered in the area to see what was going on, some taking videos and photos of the scene with their phones.
