The theme was ‘We will go trillions and above miles, fighting against gender based violence

During the 16 Days of Activism, the Estcourt District Girl Guides Movement visited Gqumaweni in Bergville.

The theme was ‘We will go trillions and above miles, fighting against gender based violence (GBV) #womenmatter’.

It was a remarkable adventure, since we were blessed by Shamiso, who is the founder of the Lioness Foundation, which is in partnership with Unyaka Wakho Youth Foundation Advocates for Change both are non-profit organisations.

We gathered at Gqumaweni School where we participated in indoor activities, including the history of Guiding and some awareness on GBV.

Shamiso had a slot that spoke about the importance of giving emphasis that it takes a nation to raise a girl child.

She had some goodies bags, with reusable sanitary pads, cosmetics as well a pattern chart on how to sew your own reusable sanitary pads.

She also emphasised the importance of hygiene and cleanliness when using them and in general. Each Girl Guide Unit was given a bag to share the goodies, by that she was promoting the skill of sharing equally, respecting and loving.

Thereafter, it was time for an outdoor activity, visiting some places of interest.

The team having a lighter moment during the outdoor activities.

Our special thanks goes to Nondumiso Khumalo, a Guider from Themba Primary Unit who was our tour guide for the day, Shamiso our special guest, our Girl Guides District Commissioner Hleziphi Ndaba from Sifisosethu Primary Unit, as well as all Girl Guides and Guiders who were present on the day.
