‘Polar Bear’ Sheila splashes around in Lake Naverone

Participants can choose to swim 100m or 400m in icy-cold water in the middle of winter

The Polar Bear Swim has been on Sheila Theron’s bucket list for a long time now and this year, she decided to do something about it. The Drakensberg Polar Bear Swim Challenge is an annual event that takes place in the Cathkin Park or Champagne Valley area of the Central Drakensberg, in aid of the Estcourt and Khetani Animal Shelter. So while participants get to challenge themselves, they are also doing it for a good cause.
Participants can choose to swim 100m or 400m in icy-cold water in the middle of winter, in the middle of the Drakensberg, in Lake Naverone. In a beautiful setting, brave swimmers challenge themselves and do their part for animal welfare in the process. Well done to everyone who took part, specifically Sheila Theron and her friend for ticking this one off their bucket lists.
