Municipal employees are celebrating after getting their jobs back.
After a protracted legal battle, the 223 municipal employees who were fired nearly three years ago will finally be returning to work on October 3.
On Monday, September 19, at the Mayor’s Parlour, the multi-party government of Newcastle Municipality conducted a media briefing with a number of media houses in the province to discuss the re-appointment.
On March 18 this year, the municipality decided to enter into negotiations with the employees’ legal counsel to settle the matter out of court after receiving legal advice from one of the senior advisors, Mr Mthembu, who informed the municipality that they did not have enough grounds to win on the matter in the Labour Court.
