Sarel Cilliers hosts the Drakensberg Boys Choir at choral competition

The competition was divided into junior and senior sections, with judges Vaughn van Zyl and Jacques Linde from the Drakensberg Boys Choir and Lawrence Joubert given the difficult task of selecting the winners.

Sarel Cilliers hosted the first Northern KZN Battle of the Drums Choir Competition on Saturday. A long-time dream of educator Steven Joubert, it was a great honour for Sarel Cilliers to work in partnership with the Drakensberg Boys Choir, who performed not only on stage but also in the quad for the choir entrants and their conductors. It was a great privilege for many local choirs and the community to be able to hear the ‘Drakies’ perform – a day that will be long remembered! Entrants in the junior section included Uelzen Junior Choir, Uelzen Senior Choir and Ethangeni Junior Choir. This section was won by Biggarsberg Junior School Choir, with only a point difference.
The senior section entrants included Dundee High School, Ethangeni Combined School, Dundee Secondary School, St Dominic’s Academy and Sarel Cilliers High School. The winner was the Newcastle High Choir, who received a standing ovation from the audience.
